Next Gen Partner Alliance
Leadership Development for Partners Who Are Serious About Leading
Becoming a partner is not the destination. It is the beginning of a more demanding leadership journey — one that most partners are never formally prepared for.
The Next Gen Partner Alliance is a peer leadership community built specifically for partners and senior lawyers navigating that transition. Through a structured annual programme of immersive full-day workshops and focused monthly sessions, members develop the leadership capability, commercial acumen and self-awareness to lead themselves, their teams and their firms with genuine impact.
All discussions remain confidential. The learning is practical, peer-driven and grounded in the real pressures of modern legal practice.

Who the Alliance Is For
The Alliance is open to:
- New partners and senior leaders within their first three years in role
- Senior associates preparing for partnership
- Established partners looking to sharpen their leadership edge
Applications from those outside these categories are considered on request.
The 2026–2027 Programme
The programme runs across three interconnected blocks, each building on the last. Full-day immersive sessions anchor the big shifts in thinking; monthly one-hour online sessions keep momentum and address the practical challenges partners face in real time.
Block One: Leading Self — Understanding and Owning Your Leadership Identity
21 May 2026 | Full Day (In Person)
You have the title. Now it is about impact. This full-day session helps partners identify what genuinely differentiates exceptional leadership – starting with the hardest person to lead: yourself. Participants complete a leadership diagnostic and use it as the foundation for everything that follows, building a precise and personal picture of how they lead, where they are most effective, and where they need to be more intentional. The day covers the shift from fee-earner to leader, influencing at every level of the organisation, and building and leading high-performance teams.
Block Two: Leading Others — Recruitment, Talent Management and Retention
18 June 2026 | 12:00–13:00 Online
The most significant shift in employment law in a generation. This session covers what has changed and what it means for how partners manage their people day to day — including probation, day one rights, dismissal processes and practical compliance.
23 July 2026 | 12:00–13:00 Online
With NQ salaries at the top of the market now exceeding £180,000, the war for talent is reshaping firm economics and culture. This session examines what the next generation of lawyers actually want, how to build meaningful progression pathways in a hybrid environment, and how the partnership model must evolve to remain competitive.
Block Three: Leading Positive Outcomes — Driving Commercial Success and Firm-Wide Impact
17 September 2026 | Full Day (In Person)
The commercial and technological skills most partners were never formally taught — brought together in one high-impact day. The programme covers firm financials, the drivers of profitability at practice and firm level, and translating strategic goals into daily decisions. The afternoon focuses on AI: how to evaluate tools critically, liability and PII implications, and building a governance framework clients will trust.
22 October 2026 | 12:00–13:00 Online
Research consistently shows that diverse and inclusive teams outperform their peers. This session builds understanding of neurodiversity, challenges partners to examine their own management styles, and offers practical strategies for unlocking the full potential of every team member.
19 November 2026 | 12:00–13:00 Online
A reflective mid-programme session designed to close the gap between intention and behaviour. Participants revisit their leadership commitments, share what has worked and what has not, and leave with a refreshed personal action plan for 2027.
17 December 2026 | 12:00–13:00 Online
How do you drive performance without driving people into the ground? Sustainably high-performing teams are built on psychological safety, clarity and trust — not pressure and availability.
28 January 2027 | 12:00–13:00 Online
Procurement-led panels, data-driven relationship scoring and AI-assisted benchmarking are reshaping how clients buy legal services. This forward-looking session helps partners develop a personal BD strategy fit for the next five years.
25 February 2027 | 12:00–13:00 Online
A practical framework for assessing performance honestly and consistently — setting meaningful standards, having performance conversations that land, managing underperformance without delay, and building a culture of accountability.
25 March 2027 | 12:00–13:00 Online
Every partner will face a crisis. How they respond defines their leadership reputation. This candid session covers taking accountability without self-destruction, having difficult conversations with colleagues, and leading a team through adversity.
